Eight years ago my dad passed away. I was only twelve years old, but I Realized That things would never be the same in The Netherlands. A year later, I traveled to the United States with my family for the first time to visit my English aunt who had been married and living in Minnesota for years over at. We stayed with her for six weeks in the summer months and I fell in love with spending my time in the waters of Lake Minnetonka and around all of the beautiful nature That Minnesota had to sacrifice. I already knew well before the trip ended that I. had to return to spend an extended period of time in the United States.
Years went by and I traveled to visit my aunt a few more times, but it was never for the long stay that I. Desired. Luckily, at the age of eighteen, the opportunity to do an exchange year in the U.S. presented itself and I was headed back to Minnesota to spend twelve whole months at Mound High School near my aunt Chantal. I left The Netherlands for a quite familiar but alsovery unknown place.
I am so glad I braved the unknown. My exchange year turned out to be the best year of my life and a complete eye opener. It turns out That my learning style is much better suited for the American education system than it is for that or the English as it was an extremely successful year for me academically. The improvement of my grades were huge, but more Importantly, I learned so much about myself, came out of my shell, and gained so many new friends. I had never felt more confident, comfortable, and calm-physically, emotionally, or mentally. If this was not reason enough to stay, I fell in love with a Minnesotan named Rob Prochnow. I needed to stay in Minnesota and attend college.
Unfortunately, my exchange year ended as my visa expired in July of 2013. The best summer of my life capped off the best year of my life, and leaving was the hardest thing I had ever done. Coming back was the only option, but would not be possible without the hardest work on my part. Rob and I kept in touch with Skype conversations That lasted hours. Ashes We Became more serious with my short visit over Christmas and his recent trip to The Netherlands, Seemed to be my dream coming true .
I want to start attending college in Minnesota in the Fall of 2014 at MCTC, and plan on finishing my Physical Therapy degree at the University of Minnesota. Over the past eight months I have been working as hard as humanly possible to reach my goals, but the work is not over yet. I have been working three jobs, countless hours a week, and to superintend continued working as much through the summer. My hope is that I. can support myself along with help from my mother and Dutch family. You can never be too sure, However, and thats why I would like to reach out to YOU! My friends and people I consider family in Minnesota and everywhere else in the world, would you help me make my dreams come true? By making just a small donation, you could help me start on a lifelong path thats sure to bring me peace and happiness!
